What to Expect
For all sessions, you will be asked preliminary questions to determine your overall health and desired results. You will receive a full 30, 60 or 90 minutes of therapy. Please plan for an extra 15 minutes for intake and post-session plan.
Polarity
The client lies on a table fully clothed. Hands-on, gentle and non-invasive, the bodywork moves the body’s energy to clear blockages, restore balance and activate the body’s own healing ability.
Through therapeutic touch that works with energetic patterns (similar to acupuncture meridians), exercise, and diet, Polarity Therapy empowers the client to align to their body’s natural rhythms.
Reiki
Reiki is a healing art of Japanese origin where ki or the “universal life force” is transferred to the client for the healing they most require. Most people experience a profound sense of relaxation, a lightness of being, and often relief from pain. By easing stress and tension, Reiki supports the body in its ability to heal.
During a Reiki session, the client lies on a table fully clothed. The practitioner places their hands upon or slightly above the client with the intent for healing to occur. Little or no pressure is applied. The practitioner follows a series of traditional hand positions or can focus on areas of specific discomfort.
Massage
Before your massage, you’ll be instructed as to what clothing to remove. Clothing is only removed to your level of comfort. The therapist will leave the room while you undress. A sheet and blanket will be provided and will cover your body except for the part being massaged during the entire session. The massage technique will be determined based on the initial intake. You should also remove any jewelry or other articles that might interfere with the massage. And please remember to turn off your cell phone!
A massage session can be one or a combination of the following techniques:
- Swedish Massage – Most commonly known massage for stimulating circulation and promoting relaxation.
- Stretching – Range of Motion, Positional Release, PNF stretching. Great in combination with other therapies.
- Range of Motion: Passive stretching that is excellent for assessing areas that need attention.
- Positional Release: Decreases muscle spasms at tender points through sustained positioning without pain allowing local areas of inflammation trapped within the tissue to dissipate.
- PNF Stretching (Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation): A combination of passive stretching and active isometric contraction for improving range of motion that is particularly helpful in improving athletes’ performance.
- Reflexology – Alternating pressure applied to areas of the foot that reflex to parts of the body.
- Myofascial Release – Sustained pressure into myofascial restrictions to eliminate pain and restore motion.
- Trigger Point Therapy – A deep tissue therapy that addresses chronic pain.
Expect a peaceful and comfortable environment for your massage or body work session. Oil or lotion, which reduces drag on the skin, is used while performing the massage strokes. If you are allergic to some oils or lotions, be sure to tell the therapist so we can make sure the ingredients in the oil or lotion do not bother you.
Your massage will either be the full body or specific areas that need attention depending on your needs. For example, general relaxation or stress reduction sessions usually include all the major areas of the body while a session for a localized injury, pain or tightness will be focused on a specific area. It is possible to spend most of an entire session on only one area. If there is anything that does not feel comfortable or you do not like, you have the right to ask to stop at any time.
After the massage is finished, you will once again be provided privacy in order to get dressed. If you have any questions about the type of massage or therapeutic body work that would be right for you, please contact me via phone at 978.460.1736 or via email by using the form on the contact page.
